Join us this May for another evening of humanitarian mapping (and pizza!). No previous experience required.
On Thursday 18th May from 6pm-8:30pm, we are hosting a Missing Maps event in support of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), the Red Cross and the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT), to help improve maps of vulnerable or disaster affected places.
We also plan to squeeze in a post-mapping drink at The Punter just down the road.
What is it?
The aim of the Missing Maps Project is to map the most crisis-prone parts of the world. With your help we can directly improve the lives of some of the planet’s most vulnerable people.
The past few Cambridge events have seen volunteers help map areas at risk from malaria in Guatemala, Honduras, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Our contribution has helped support the Clinton Health Access Initiative efforts to eliminate malaria.
No matter whether you’re an experienced Humanitarian Mapper or have never done anything like this before, come along to learn more about OpenStreetMap, GIS and the Missing Maps project.
We will do an introduction on how to map and teach you how to edit OSM and work with the HOT Tasking Manager on mapping tasks.
What do I need?
Just a laptop (you must bring your own with you), a mouse and enthusiasm (mouse isn’t absolutely necessary but makes the mapping A LOT faster).
No experience necessary. All tools are free and open source.

British Antarctic Survey have kindly offered to host the May event located in west Cambridge (CB3 0ET).
