Use Case Study: USAID Leveraging Data Through Partnerships

The CIO Council Innovation Committee has released their third Open Data Case Study, Leveraging Data Through Partnerships, showcasing the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

USAID carries out U.S. foreign policy by promoting broad-scale human progress. At the same time it expands stable societies, creates markets and trade partners, and fosters goodwill abroad. Their mission is to end extreme poverty and promote resilient, democratic societies while advancing our security and prosperity

USAID is a data-driven, evidence-based Agency with an abundant amount of data on international development programs from a diverse set of partners. To gather and make use of open data from its expansive partnerships, USAID recognized the need for comprehensive changes to its business processes and technology infrastructure. USAID established its first-ever open data policy and a Development Data Library and framework that enabled its partners to share valuable data on international development. Additionally, by embedding data submission requirements into its awards, USAID is receiving a steady stream of data worldwide, which in turn is released to the public.
