Successful webinar on Implementing Linked Data in Low Resource Conditions

Some 300 people from around the world* attended the webinar, held yesterday and hosted by ASIS&T, the Association for Information Science and Technology.

The presenters, Dr. Johannes Keizer and Dr. Caterina Caracciolo, described the steps required to produce open data and linked open data, and highlighted pros and cons of the solutions currently available to those who what to make their data published following the open data movement. Based on an analysis of what low-resource condition may mean with respect to producing linked data, they emphasized the importance of looking at open data and linked data not as alternative ways of exposing data, but rather as a continuum – where each institution may find the best solution according to the resource constraints it has.  They presented GODAN as a relevant initiative in the area, which may be of example and support to those dealing with data on agriculture and nutrition. They also presented AGRIS as an example of partnership to maximize energies when working in low resource environments.

The presentation was well received – judging from the 75% ca of the respondents to survey (~ 130 people) who assessed the webinar as excellent or very good.
