Open Data in Agriculture and Nutrition debate at IODC 2015

Freelance journalist Flavie Halais provides in-depth coverage of the Agriculture and Nutrition debate at IODC 7 challenges the agriculture sector must address to unleash the data revolution

Her review of the discussion, published by Devex, includes quotes from GODAN partners on key issues about data ownership and collection, as well as an exploration of the need for data to be available, truly accessible and interoperable.  Participants in the discussion identified the need for cross-sector collaboration, data literacy and the need to communicate with farmers as non-technocentric data collectors and users, the gap between the collection of data and its transformation into a usable resource and the need to be gender aware were among many issues covered.

GODAN’s presence in the open data revolution in the Agriculture and Nutrition sector was recognised and the article highlights the role of the discussion paper, as well as the participation of session speakers in highlighting concrete examples of how open data has been used effectively in decision-making in the sector
