Handling NHS patient data?

Developing healthcare apps and digital health technologies?

This event is for you

Inviting all small and medium-sized businesses, corporates, start-ups, digital agencies, researchers and tech entrepreneurs dealing with NHS patient data and developing healthcare apps and other digital health technologies.

What’s the deal with health data? Open health data that is publically released, by NHS Digital for example, is made freely available for everyone to use. It is anonymised so none of the data can be linked to a particular patient. Mark Barrett of Data Flock will show us how analysis of open data can be used in a range of ways, such as to improve the quality of care, reduce healthcare costs, and inform patient choice.

But what if you’re handling new or existing NHS patient data that can be linked to a patient? This event will go on to explore what to do if you are handling NHS patient data and/or developing health apps and digital health technologies and the related data security, compliance, approvals, integration and interoperability considerations.

If your organisation handles NHS patient data, you may need to complete NHS Digital’s Information Governance Toolkit – Information Governance level 2 is needed as part of NHS standard contracts, for tendering and to integrate with Spine, the ‘electronic backbone of the NHS’. Hear from Byron George at the University of York who has taken their Patient Case Management Information System through this process.

The number of health apps on the app stores is growing substantially, over 259,000 at a recent count with 500 million users and 3 billion downloads. How are these apps being regulated and what implications are there for use of people’s personal health data – and what do you need to do as a business? How can standards support innovators in developing novel solutions, whilst also holding them to account for meeting regulations and other professional requirements? Find out more from Rob Turpin from BSI and Julie Bretland of Our Mobile Health.

We also aim to touch on the Accelerated Access Review and NHS Test Beds and the implications for digital health products. Participants who would like to share their experience of handling NHS data, the Information Governance Toolkit, data security or the development of healthcare apps and other digital health technologies will also be invited to present and get feedback from other attendees.
